“I have a degree in Psychology. When I was in my final year of college, I was already realizing that maybe that wasn’t what I wanted to do. […] It was so obvious that other people could see it too.”

“I took six months to study. During that time, I studied programming, found a course at the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul, and after those six months I got into college. And with what I had studied, I was already able to land my first internship.”

That beginning quickly opened doors. Her willingness to learn programming languages and adapt to a completely new field showed that IT is accessible to those who are willing to challenge themselves.

Over time, Amora realized that her talent for communication and working with people was a key asset in digital product roles. That was when she discovered the Product Owner position:

“Many people may not be familiar with the Product Owner role, but it’s the person responsible for managing the demands that go into development. So it’s a role that relies heavily on communication. You need to understand what is being requested and also understand technology well enough to know how we can make it happen.”

This discovery led to professional fulfillment, allowing her to combine her background in Psychology, her passion for technology, and her ability to connect ideas and people to build products with real value.

Essential skills for working as a Product Owner

For those considering a career transition into IT within the product area, Amora highlights two essential skills:

“The two skills I consider essential to work in this area are communication and a passion for technology. Technology changes very fast. […] So, to work with it, you need to enjoy dealing with people, understanding them, and also enjoy the technology side, the new developments, and the different ways of doing things.”

She also emphasizes the importance of having at least a basic understanding of programming when pursuing roles like Product Owner, since knowing how solutions are built is a fundamental part of the job.
